The Ceremony of Initiation—or the First Degree in Freemasonry—is one of the most ancient, solemn, and transformative rites in human history. It marks the precise moment a candidate transitions from the outer world into the fellowship of the Craft, taking his first steps on a lifelong journey of self-improvement, moral philosophy, and fraternal union.

At Emulation Lodge No. 67, we take immense pride in conducting the Initiation ceremony according to the traditional Emulation Rite in the English language. Surrounded by Brethren from across the globe, the candidate is formally received into the Lodge, taught the foundational secrets of an Entered Apprentice, and entrusted with the ancient landmarks of our Order.

What Happens During a Masonic Initiation?

While the specific details of the ritual are reserved strictly for those who pass through the portals of the Temple, the purpose of the First Degree is universal:

Seeking the Light: The ceremony symbolizes a passage from darkness to intellectual, moral, and spiritual light.

The Foundation Stone: The new Entered Apprentice is placed in the Northeast corner of the Lodge, representing a fresh foundation upon which to build a life of integrity, charity, and truth.

Universal Principles: The candidate is introduced to the core tenets of Freemasonry—Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth—under the jurisdiction of the Gran Logia de España (GLE) and in alignment with the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) standards.

Event Itinerary & Schedule To maintain the precision and solemnity of our labors, all members and visiting Brethren are asked to adhere strictly to the schedule:

10:15 AM – 10:45 AM | Arrival & Preparation

Brethren assemble at the Temple in Chamartin to sign the attendance book, don regalia, and prepare the candidate for his reception.

11:00 AM ON THE DOT | Opening of the Lodge

The Venerable Maestro gavel falls to open the Lodge in the First Degree. Late arrival is not permitted once the ceremony has commenced.

01:15 PM | Closing of the Lodge

Labor concludes, and the Brethren retire to transition from Labor to Refreshment.

01:45 PM | Festive Board & Fraternal Lunch

We celebrate our newest Entered Apprentice over lunch, sharing in warm toasts, international cuisine, fine Spanish wines, and genuine fraternal harmony.

Information for Visiting Brethren & Seekers Visiting Masons: Brethren from recognized regular jurisdictions (UGLE, GLE, Grand Lodge of Bolivia, and international Grand Lodges in amity) are cordially invited to attend. Please bring your Masonic passport or grand lodge clearance certificate.
